RC Guelph is leading an initiative to develop the largest affordable housing project with solar ever undertaken in Canada – a 50-unit condo-style high-performance Habitat for Humanity installation predominantly serving low-income residents. The project is in Guelph, ONT, a university city experiencing an explosion in unsheltered housing (tent encampments in the central city). Solarization will greatly reduce usage of conventional energy as well as reducing residents’ living costs. This project has the potential to change building practices throughout Canada. It has strong support from Habitat Canada who see it as a model for Habitat affiliates to add solar across Canada.
