A Message from the President

It is a tremendous honor to serve as President of the Rotary Club of Madison for the 2026–27 Rotary year.

I am grateful for the trust of our members and for the many people who make this club what it is: the volunteers who lead, serve, and turn ideas into action; our Foundation leaders; Board members; amazing staff; and the hundreds of members who show up each day to strengthen our community.

Downtown Rotary has a 114-year history of bringing people together around service, ethics, leadership, and the belief that we can accomplish more when we work alongside one another.

This past year alone, our members and Foundation directed nearly $1 million toward scholarships, youth programs, local nonprofits, humanitarian work, and other efforts that improve lives in Madison and beyond. We mentor young people, support educators and community organizations, convene leaders, build relationships across sectors, and create opportunities for members to serve with purpose.

That is meaningful work. And this year, I hope we can help more people see it, understand it, and take part in it.

Our focus will be on five connected priorities:
  1. Telling Rotary’s story more consistently throughout the community.
  2. Building meaningful strategic partnerships that strengthen our service, membership, and community impact.
  3. Creating a stronger first-year experience so that new members can connect, engage, and find their place in Rotary from their first contact through their first year.
  4. Helping members better understand the impact of their philanthropy and generosity.
  5. Making Downtown Rotary more visible and distinctive through our service, leadership, and signature initiatives.
None of this is about reinventing Rotary. It is about building on the remarkable work already underway and connecting it more intentionally.

Our Ethics Symposium, youth programs, scholarships, service projects, fellowships, and philanthropic efforts are not isolated activities. Together, they tell a larger story about a club that believes in investing in people, strengthening our community, and creating opportunities for the next generation.

I am also encouraged that this work will extend beyond a single Rotary year. Working alongside incoming Presidents Janet Piraino (2027-28) and Janine O’Rourke (2028-29), we are committed to building on one another’s leadership. Together, we'll establish strong foundations now, deepen what works, and sustain progress over time.

For current members, I hope this year brings new opportunities to connect, contribute, and take pride in the impact we create together.

For those who are learning about Rotary for the first time, I hope you will see a welcoming community of people who care deeply about Madison and who believe your service, your friendship, and your leadership can make a real difference.

Thank you for being part of this work.
Mark Greene, President, 2026–27
