Membership Criteria
Membership is by
invitation. Annually, the Rotary Club of Madison invites a limited number
of individuals to become members. These prospective members represent
various businesses and professional activities in the community.
To become a member of the
Rotary Club of Madison, an individual first has to be proposed for
membership by a current club member. A candidate must hold a high-level
position in his or her organization and exercise decision-making
responsibility:
Engaged as a proprietor, partner, corporate officer, manager of any
worthy and recognized business or profession; or acting as the local agent or branch representative
or agency thereof and holding as executive capacity with discretionary authority; or an active community
leader; or Rotary Foundation Alumnus.
Membership costs are currently $909 per year, which includes the dues and
weekly meal costs. In addition, members are encourages to contribute to the
annual Madison Rotary Foundation fund drive. The average gift is $250.

In
all its actions, including its actions as an employer and its selection of
members, officers, and directors, the Rotary Club of Madison does not
discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, color, creed,
disability, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age or other
basis prohibited by law.
The club continually
strives to have its membership mirror the business and professional
leadership of the greater Madison Community.
Responsibilities and Criteria for Membership
Service: Members of Rotary do not just belong to the club so they may
come to a weekly meeting with a speaker. Instead, they are dedicated to the
purposes of Rotary which are: (1) to encourage, promote, extend and
supervise Rotary throughout the world; and (2) to coordinate and generally
direct the activities of Rotary International.
Attendance: Members are required to attend 50 percent of the weekly
meetings. When it is not possible to attend the meeting of your home club,
make-ups can be done at area clubs (of which there are seven other clubs in
Madison) or if you are out of town, e-mail the Rotary Club of Madison to
find out where Rotary meets in the city you are visiting. District 6250
Clubs and meeting times are available on District 6250's web site. Make-ups can be made 14 days
before or 14 days after the missed meeting.
Classification: A basic element of Rotary is the classification
system. The classification describes the vocation or work in which the
member is employed. The objective of the classification system is to ensure
that the membership of the club is representative of the occupations in the
area and to encourage broad friendships within the business and professional
community. Members cannot simultaneously be a member of another service or
Rotary club.
Financial
Obligations: The financial commitment to the Rotary Club includes an
admission fee and a biannual fee for dues and luncheons.
