Responsibilities and Criteria for Membership

Service: Members of Rotary do not just belong to the club so they may come to a weekly meeting with a speaker.  Instead, they are dedicated to the purposes of Rotary which are: (1) to encourage, promote, extend and supervise Rotary throughout the world; and (2) to coordinate and generally direct the activities of Rotary International.

Attendance: Members are required to attend 50 percent of the weekly meetings.  When it is not possible to attend the meeting of your home club, make-ups can be done at area clubs (of which there are seven other clubs in Madison) or if you are out of town, e-mail the Rotary Club of Madison to find out where Rotary meets in the city you are visiting.  District 6250 Clubs and meeting times are available on District 6250's web site. Make-ups can be made 14 days before or 14 days after the missed meeting.

Classification:   A basic element of Rotary is the classification system.  The classification describes the vocation or work in which the member is employed.  The objective of the classification system is to ensure that the membership of the club is representative of the occupations in the area and to encourage broad friendships within the business and professional community.  Members cannot simultaneously be a member of another service or Rotary club.

Financial Obligations: The financial commitment to the Rotary Club includes an admission fee and a biannual fee for dues and luncheons.
